Pacer Shamar Joseph has earned a call-up to the West Indies squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the US and Caribbean. Joseph hasn't played an international T20 yet but is part of the ongoing Indian Premier League. He made his Test debut against Australia earlier this year and was an instant success.

That apart, West Indies have been largely consistent with their recent picks for the format with Alzarri Joseph named the deputy to skipper Rovman Powell. However, Shimron Hetmyer has made it back to the squad with Kyle Mayers missing out, having featured in West Indies' previous two T20I series. Missing out similarly is pacer Oshane Thomas with Shamar coming in.

The squad also contains a host of all-rounders with Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie being the spin options available.

The two-time champions of the T20 World Cup are grouped along with Papua New Guinea (PNG), Uganda, New Zealand and Afghanistan in Group C.

Squad: Rovman Powell (capt), Alzarri Joseph (vc), Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope, Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford
